Getting rid of cat urine smell
Cat urine smell is among of the most unpleasant and toughestodors to eliminate at home. This is because the it has strong smell that remains even after you wipe out the urine from the board or the floor. Cats also has a tendency of urinating in the same place where they can smell their urine making it even worse. The cats will continually urinate at the same place until you ensure the urine scent is eliminated. In most cases normal cleaning agents do not help in eliminating the cat urine odor because of the salts and uric acid in the cat urine. However, the following products are effective in ensuring the odor is eliminated completely.
Vinegar is very efficient in getting rid of urine smell when diluted by water. Two parts of water should be mixed with one part of white vinegar and then ensure the area is saturated with the mixture after you blot the urine as much as you can. Then allow the carpet of the fabric to get dry or apply a dry or wet vacuum on the area, so that it can absorb the liquid. Vinegar is effective because it kills the bacteria that cause the odor, that develop because of the cat urine and release of the ammonia odor. In order to remove the cat urine smell from clothing it is advisable to ad a half or a cup of vinegar to the washing machine.
2. Baking Soda
Baking soda works effectively because of its deodorizing characteristic. You should sprinkle it on the areas where the cat has urinated on the furniture of carpet, after you blot the areas in order to absorb the urine. Allow it to stay overnight and the vacuum thoroughly. Baking soda should be applied after trying the water/vinegar when the area is already dry or when it is still wet. The baking soda soaks up any remaining odors. It can also work by mixing it with hydrogen peroxide to create a paste that is then applied to cat urine stain. The peroxide assists in killing bacteria and deodorizing the urinated area. In case the cat has urinated on clothing, just add a half cup of the baking soda to the washing machine.
3. Enzymatic cleaners
There are various enzymatic cleaners that are specifically manufactured to clean cat urine. They help in breaking down the urine components and cause the bad odor, by converting them to oxygen, hydrogen and carbon. It is good to note that enzymes target specific matter; therefore you should look for the products manufactured purposely for cat urine. You should play the enzymatic cleaner directly to the urine odor in the carpets, furniture or fabrics. Always adhere to the direction given on the product purchased. The enzymes eliminate the odor completely and prevent remarking of the area by the cat. They are also more effective because they do not have any harmful effects to the pets or the environment.
4. Oxygen bleach
This is another effective product that helps eliminating odor by cat urine. It has sodium percarbonate that is mixed withl soda ash. Water has the ability to activate oxygen bleach components, which then emit oxygen and break down stains and cat urine odor.
